Jan-about.jpg

Jan Mills is a visual artist who lives and works in rural Eastern Ontario. His work is largely informed by his natural surroundings and his keen sense and handling of materials.

Jan had the great fortune of studying under two accomplished and influential artists; Murray Smith, a watercolorist who studied and painted in the style of American regionalist Andrew Wyeth, and artist, author, educator, and authority on Inuit art, Professor George Swinton.

Both mentors had a profound effect on Jan’s development as an artist; Smith in the expressive handling of materials, and Swinton in the development of a unique voice and visual vocabulary.

Jan’s paintings, collages, and found-object works can be found in private collections in Canada and USA.
